I’ve never talked to anyone. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?
Not at all. People who ask for help know when they need it and have the courage to reach out. Everyone needs help now and then. In our work together, I’ll help you explore and identify your strengths and how to implement them to reduce the influence of the problems you are facing.
What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?
A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way– teach you new skills, gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you listen to yourself. Furthermore, counseling is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others “knowing my business.” Lastly, if your situation provokes a great deal of negative emotion, and you’ve been confiding in a friend or family member, there is the risk that once you are feeling better you could start avoiding that person so you aren’t reminded of this difficult time in your life.
Why shouldn’t I just take medication?
Medication can be effective but it alone cannot solve all issues. Sometimes medication is needed in conjunction with counseling. Our work together is designed to explore and unpack the problems you are experiencing and expand on your strengths that can help you accomplish your personal goals.
How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?
Because each person has different issues and goals for counseling, it will be different depending on the individual. I tailor my therapeutic approach to your specific needs.
How long will I need treatment?
Treatment times vary based on the complexity of the presenting problem, your willingness to apply the principles learned in session outside of treatment, and frequency of appointments. The healing journey is very personal and unique and I respect each client’s pace. We gladly tailor our work together to meet your individual needs.
I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?
I am so glad you are dedicated to getting the most out of your sessions. Your active participation and dedication will be crucial to your success.
Do you take insurance?
I do not work directly with insurance providers, however, my services are usually reimbursable as an out-of-network expense. You will have access to all of your receipts and superbills through an individual client portal, which will allow you to easily print and submit directly to your insurance company.
How long is each session?
I offer a variety of session types to meet your scheduling needs.
$325.00 Individuals/$375.00 Couples initial 80 minute intake session.
$185.00 Individuals/ $250.00 Couples per 45-minute (standard)session.
What can I expect from the 1st session?
We will review your introductory paperwork, goals for therapy, any concerns or questions you might have, and your personal history. We will then prepare an individualized treatment plan to most effectively help you move toward your goals, and periodically check with you to ensure your comfort with the pace and direction of your care. Your questions and input are important and are always welcome
Where can I access the client forms?
After scheduling your intake appointment, you will be assigned a private, encrypted client portal, and will be emailed a link to intake forms via our SimplePractice web platform.
All paperwork is completed online and is fully encrypted for your security and privacy. Typical forms include an Intake form, Informed Consent (which reviews all of our office policies), Credit Card Authorization, and Release of Information form.
Please be sure to complete these forms at least 48 business hours prior to arriving for your initial appointment
